19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular outbursts on court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a third set.

He saved four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
